Design Meets Science: Multisensory HTWD Exhibit Brings Research to Life
Designers and researchers at HTWD (Dresden University of Applied Sciences) have developed an interactive exhibit that makes complex environmental topics tangible using all the senses. The goal is to promote knowledge transfer and dialogue between science and the public through exploratory experiences.
The first prototype focuses on ecological water development, demonstrating how planted floating islands can improve water quality and urban biodiversity.
What makes the exhibit unique is its three-pronged approach to the topic:
🖥️ Multitouch Screen (Digital Time Travel): Interactive 3D graphics provide a visually engaging look at how urbanization affects our water systems over time.
🥽 VR Environment (Immersive Experience): Using a VR headset and spatial audio, users dive into a 360° world to experience the floating islands up close from a frog’s perspective.
🌿 Material Station (Hands-On Research): Real miniature floating islands, plants, and bio-based carrier materials are available for visitors to touch and examine physically.
Previous Exhibitions:
The exhibit has already been showcased at the Long Night of Sciences (Dresden), the futureSAX Innovation Conference, and the COSMO Science Forum. Further exhibitions are planned.
