FABMOBIL

Client: Fabmobil e.V.
Task: save the world by making rural areas of Saxony a better place and doing workshops on Creative Technologies with the next gen
The Mission:
The goal of the Fabmobil is to bring Creative Technologies such as 3D printing, Virtual Reality, robotics, and programming to rural areas. We contribute to revitalizing and activating existing initiatives while fostering the development of new digital and contemporary cultural and experiential formats.
Why?
In the rural, decentralized regions of eastern Germany, young people have little to no direct access to digital technologies.
That’s why, since 2017, the Fabmobil has been traveling through rural areas of Saxony, reaching over 1,300 students each year outside the major metropolitan areas.
Project Idea:
The Fabmobil is a mobile arts, culture, and future lab for Saxony.
It is a traveling digital workshop—a double-decker bus packed to the roof with digital technologies and ample space for creativity, collaborative experimentation, and discovery.
We offer single- and multi-day workshops and courses—for kids, teenagers, and beyond.
We spark curiosity and showcase the possibilities of Creative Technologies such as Virtual Reality, robotics, and programming.
The Offer:
The Fabmobil visits various types of schools as well as extracurricular learning and education centers, providing a diverse range of workshops, courses, and target-group-specific learning formats in the field of media education.
Our programs take place in block formats lasting between one and five days. Topics range from programming, digitalization, and 3D printing to art and design, robotics, Creative Technologies, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, and Virtual Reality.
A special focus is placed on the individual development of media literacy, fostering a confident and critical approach to digital culture.
The Fabmobil primarily operates in decentralized, non-urban, and rural regions of Saxony. This ensures equal living conditions between urban and rural areas and provides equitable access to digital education and media literacy.
Methods & Competencies:
The Fabmobil e.V. aligns its offerings with themes from Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), STEM subjects, and the media education framework of Saxony, "Competencies in the Digital World."
We believe that media literacy and digital empowerment are interdisciplinary topics that should be taught as such.
The Fabmobil provides an experimental, audience-oriented, and open learning environment where process-based design and creation take center stage. Workshop leaders support participants in their own creative and intellectual learning paths. In addition to structured introductions to software and technology, sessions also include flexible work phases where students collaborate in groups or pairs, learning with and from each other.
